
Neuss (Novaesium) is one of the oldest cities in Germany. Its more than 2000-year history goes back to the time of the Roman Empire. The foundation of the city is proven by a deed from the year 1190. Today, Neuss is a large town of around. 150.000 inhabitants.
Neuss is the largest city in the Rhine district and in terms of population belonging to the district (i.e. not independent), the largest city in the Federal Republic of Germany. The cities of Düsseldorf, Dormagen, Grevenbroich, Korchenbroich, Kaarst and Meerbusch border the city of Neuss.
The Quirinus-Münster, the Obertor, the arsenal Zeughaus, the city walls at Hamtor-Platz and some museums can be reached easily by foot.
The pedestrian zone (Krefelder Str. / Niederstr.) offers a series of economical shopping possibilities in the city centre.
A visit to the Neuss galloping race track on race days is well worthwhile.
The city of Neuss lies around 16 kilometres from our house and may be reached easily by car via the A57 in around 10 to 15 minutes. By trams / underground railways U-bahns U70,U74/U76 (stop 5 minutes) changing at Belsenplatz into the U75 one requires around 45 minutes to the Neuss main railway station. By regional train from MB-Osterath railway station, one is at Neuss main railway station in around 6 minutes.
